Questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about lessons, teachers and getting started.
Teachers & safety
Who teaches the lessons?
Lessons are taught by our UK-qualified teachers, led by our founder Mrs Mohammed, who holds QTS and has over 7 years' teaching experience.
Is the lead teacher DBS checked?
Yes. Mrs Mohammed, our founder and lead teacher, holds a current DBS certificate. You can read more on our Safeguarding page.
Lessons & groups
How big are the groups?
Groups are capped at 5 students, so every child gets attention, can ask questions and is supported throughout the lesson.
What if my child misses a lesson?
Just let us know in advance, and we'll help your child catch up in the next lesson.
When are lessons?
Lessons run after school on weekdays and on weekend mornings. Weekend classes may run on Saturday, Sunday or both, and exact times are confirmed according to your child's year group and subjects. Message us on WhatsApp for the current timetable.
How long is each lesson?
Lesson lengths vary by stage. KS1 lessons last 45 to 60 minutes, to support concentration and engagement. KS2 and Year 6 SATs lessons are 60 to 90 minutes. KS3 and GCSE lessons are around 90 minutes. There is one live lesson per subject each week, so two subjects means two lessons a week. Lessons include a mix of teaching, guided practice and short changes of activity to keep pupils engaged.
Which platform do you use?
All lessons are delivered live on Microsoft Teams.
Does my child need their camera on?
Pupils may be asked to turn their camera on during lessons, particularly when interacting with the tutor, answering questions, or showing their working. Cameras do not need to remain on continuously unless this is specifically required.
Do I need to be at home during lessons?
For younger pupils, we ask that a parent or responsible adult is at home and available during the lesson. They do not need to sit with the child throughout the session, but should be available if support is needed.
Courses & exams
GCSE: Which exam boards do you cover?
We teach to the AQA and Pearson Edexcel specifications for Maths and Science. Let us know your child's exam board when you enquire.
Year 6 SATs: Do you practise SATs-style questions?
Yes. We include timed practice with past-paper-style questions so children get used to the format and feel confident on the day.
Getting started
How do I pay?
You can pay weekly or in 4-week blocks.
What equipment does my child need?
A suitable device with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, Microsoft Teams (free to join), and the materials needed for the lesson.
How do I get progress updates?
Each term your child completes an assessment, and you receive a written report on their progress.
Do you offer a trial lesson?
AMO Learning Academy may offer a free trial, taster lesson or initial assessment for new pupils, subject to availability. This gives pupils an opportunity to experience our teaching approach before parents decide whether to enrol.
Are there any additional charges?
There are no compulsory additional charges beyond the agreed tuition fee. The tuition fee includes the live lesson and standard learning materials or homework provided as part of the course. If any optional additional service or resource carries a separate charge, parents will always be informed in advance.
How do we start?
Send us a WhatsApp message. We'll answer your questions, find out a little about your child, and recommend the right group. A free trial, taster lesson or initial assessment may be available for new pupils.
